The Conference
The Philippine Statistical Association, Inc. (PSAI) is pleased to announce its 2019 Annual Conference on 4-6 September 2019 (Wednesday, Thursday, Friday) which will be held at the Subic Bay Travelers Hotel, Subic, Zambales under the theme PSAI in the Changing Data Landscape.
The PSAI recognizes the many new global and national aspirations and the emergence of new technologies. The pressure on statistical systems to produce more granular data faster and in forms easily disseminated and understood by all has become imperative. As the professional association of statisticians in the Philippines, the PSAI is challenged to look into the directions that must be pursued to be an influencer in the changing data landscape. In 2018, the PSAI started discussions to answer the question of how to move forward and a workshop was held to produce a strategic document on future directions.
The 2019 PSAI Annual Conference is designed under this environment. It shall put forward this question and will engage the participants to contribute their thoughts on the role of the PSAI in the emerging data driven culture. The participants shall come from the private sector, government, academe and development partners at the national and local levels.
The PSAI Annual Conference is a complementation of skills training, discussions, and sharing of best practices. There will be paper and poster presentations, as well as panel and market place discussions. The Conference shall also feature the Best Student Paper Competition, now on its 4th year, with the support of the Philippine Statistical Research and Training Institute.
The Training
There are four (4) parallel trainings to be conducted on Wednesday, 4 September 2019 on the following topics:
- Spatial Statistics Using ArcGIS and R
- Elements of Questionnaire Design
- Internet-Based Data Collection: Fundamentals of Webscraping
- Developing Computer Aided Personal Interviewing (CAPI) Applications Using CSPro and Survey Solutions
Training participants are enjoined to bring their own laptop computers.
Participants
Professionals from public and private sector, academe, and all other interested parties are invited to prepare papers and participate in this Conference and attend the trainings. Participation in the Training and Conference will help both the practitioners and the uninitiated at the national and local levels to better appreciate and respond to the challenges and opportunities that used to be the enclave of data science enthusiasts.

AWARDS
- STUDENT PAPER COMPETITION
A student paper session will be conducted as a pre-conference activity. Papers prepared by undergraduate students from higher educational institutions, individual or group, relevant to the topic will be submitted and evaluated based on the relevance to the conference theme. Presenter of winning papers will be given travel allowance and hotel accommodation to attend the conference and to present the paper.
- GAWAD ESTADISTIKA
Gawad Estadistika is a new award which will be given annually beginning 2017 to recognize an individual or group/institution that made the most significant contribution towards the development and intensified use of statistics in line with the PSAI's mission and vision.
