About the Conference

The PSAI holds its 2026 Annual Conference on 19-21 October 2026 under the theme Breaking the Mold: Beyond the Current Growth Paradigm through Innovation, Institutional Reform and Economic Transformation. This year’s conference provides an important platform for us to reflect on the evolving role of statistics in addressing the challenges and opportunities facing our country.

Recent developments have exposed the limitations of the Philippines' current growth paradigm, underscoring the need for innovation, institutional reform, and economic transformation to achieve more resilient and inclusive development. The Annual Conference captures the urgency of rethinking the country's development trajectory. It recognizes that achieving sustainable and inclusive growth requires more than incremental reforms; it demands bold ideas, institutional innovation, and collaborative action across government, academia, industry, and civil society.

As we navigate a rapidly changing world, statistics and data continue to play a vital role in understanding complex issues, informing evidence-based policies, strengthening institutions, and supporting meaningful economic and social transformation. Beyond producing numbers, our work as statisticians is about generating insights that can contribute to better decisions and, ultimately, better outcomes for our communities.

This conference brings together experts, practitioners, researchers, educators, and students who share a common commitment to advancing the statistical profession. We hope that the discussions, presentations, and exchange of ideas throughout these two days will inspire new perspectives, encourage collaboration, and open opportunities for innovation.

APPRECIATION COURSE 1 - Measuring What Matters: Impact Evaluation for Better Business Decisions

19 October 2026, Monday | 9:00am - 12:00nn | Venue: Philippine Statistical Research and Training Institute

About the course: This three-hour appreciation seminar introduces participants to the fundamental concepts, principles, and practical applications of Impact Evaluation (IE) in the private sector. It emphasizes how companies can determine whether programs, policies, projects, or business interventions actually produce their intended results. The seminar distinguishes impact evaluation from routine monitoring and performance assessment. It introduces the concepts of Theory of Change, outcomes and impacts, attribution, counterfactuals, comparison groups, and basic impact evaluation designs. Private-sector examples will be used throughout the seminar. The course is designed as an appreciation-level seminar; hence, emphasis is placed on conceptual understanding, practical application, and management use of evaluation results rather than on advanced statistical computation.

APPRECIATION COURSE 2 - Data Visualization in the Age of AI (Artificial Intelligence)

19 October 2026, Monday | 1:00pm - 4:00pm | Venue: Philippine Statistical Research and Training Institute

About the course: From Data to Decisions: Smarter Data Visualization with AI is a three-hour seminar designed to introduce participants to the principles and practical applications of data visualization enhanced by artificial intelligence. The seminar demonstrates how AI tools can assist users in identifying patterns, selecting appropriate visualizations, generating charts and dashboards, interpreting results, and developing compelling data narratives. Participants will learn that effective visualization goes beyond producing attractive charts—it requires choosing the right visual representation, maintaining statistical accuracy, highlighting meaningful insights, and communicating findings according to the needs of decision-makers and other audiences.

Through demonstrations and practical examples, participants will explore how tools and AI-assisted visualization platforms can accelerate the transformation of raw data into understandable and actionable information. The seminar will also emphasize responsible use of AI, including data privacy, validation of AI-generated outputs, avoidance of misleading visualizations, and the continuing importance of human statistical judgment.
